



























Domingo "Mingo" Lopes, a Cape Verdean now residing in Palm Bay, Florida, and formerly of Providence, R.I., has been elected as one of the delegates to represent Florida at the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August, 2008. Domingo is the son of William M. Lopes and Antonia Lopes.
Domingo was born in Providence on 3/20/32. He is the youngest of 8 boys and 1 girl. He has two brothers, the oldest living is Manuel and the other, Mathew. He has a son, Steven A. Britto. Domingo attended Providence public schools, and in May,1950, left voluntarily to enter the U.S.Army and was assigned to the Infantry, Division 9th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion Love Company.
In 1951 during the Korean Conflict he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. In 5/1953 he was discharged and returned to Hope High School in Providence , graduating in 6/1954. In 1955 he joined the International Longshoremans Association, Local 1329, serving as health and welfare trustee for over 15 years. He currently is a member of the Fox Point Boys Club Alumni Association, as well as a member of the Cape Verdean Progressive Club of East Providence, the Sebastian River Moose, past member of the Antone Gomes Memorial Athletic Club, (better known as Agmacs Fox Point), and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Association.
