The Onset Cape Verdean Festival will be held Saturday, August 9th from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. A “rain date” has been scheduled for Sunday, August 10th. The “bluffs” at Onset Beach will be the setting for the one-day musical and cultural experience. Local Cape Verdeans and their families and friends throughout New England, the Atlantic coast and as far away as California, Florida, Ohio, Texas and Washington D.C. will celebrate Cabo Verde’s proud heritage and legacy of music, dance, arts and crafts and traditional food. In August 2007, more than seventeen thousand attended the one-day “reunion”.
The Festival is totally supported by donations from local businesses and individual gifts from friends throughout the country. The festival committee appreciates all the contributions made to insure a successful venue.
The Onset Cape Verdean Festival Association is a non-profit organization. Last year following the 2007 Festival, the Association provided scholarships to Wareham High School and Bridgewater State College. Additionally, donations are made to support the local community, the youth of our area and projects that support development in Cape Verde
The Onset Cape Verdean Festival is a fun family day with non-stop music, 60 merchandise vendors and 17 vendors in the Food Court selling a variety of American favorites and Cape Verdean specialties.
For a small fee, visitors can park in designated areas. There will be free shuttle service to the Festival site.
